Experience Civil Rights History in Virtual Reality

Have you ever thought about how cool it would be to go back in time and be in attendance at Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech? Luckily, this has been made possible through a virtual reality experience called “MLK Now Is the Time” - an immersive and interactive journey that takes you back to 1963, a time when inequality and discrimination were at an all-time high.

Civil rights did not exist for all

This experience will take you through a series of societal inequities and disparities to underscore the relevance and purpose of that famous speech. These inequities include housing, voting, and policing, which provide proper context, allow complete immersion, and promote authentic interaction that will make you feel like a part of the crowd that day in 1963.

This experience includes segments that consist of raw photographs, video footage, voice recordings, and written text, giving it both emotional and educational significance as it shares information about injustices from the 1960s to the present day. Many believe that racism is dead and does not need to be studied or discussed, but this app proves all those points to be untrue. Let’s all take a stand together and promote equality for all, starting by being a part of this virtual reality experience!
