Quantum literacy is the ability to understand the basic ideas, opportunities, and societal impacts of quantum science and technology. The goal of this Quantum Literacy Guide is to present foundational concepts in quantum research and applications in ways that are accessible to audiences without a strong background in science, thereby broadening engagement and understanding across the NIU campus and the surrounding community.
The guide provides access to a carefully selected collection of resources, including the National Quantum Literacy Network, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing quantum literacy education and workforce readiness. And highlights the Chicago Quantum Exchange, a regional consortium of universities, national laboratories, and industry partners committed to advancing quantum research, workforce development, and economic innovation.
In addition, the guide includes sections on specific topics such as quantum computing, quantum technologies in industry, quantum education, and other emerging areas of quantum science and technology.
